UNIBOOM R-series self inflatable oil containment boom The UNIBOOM R-series is a rapid deployment boom for open waters and offshore operations. By utilizing a special compressed air inflation system, the manpower and time necessary for deployment and retrieval is reduced to a minimum. The boom is inflated as it is deployed from the reel and fully operative when it is on the water. 200 meters of the UNIBOOM R-series can be deployed by one man in less than ten minutes. The freeboard is maintained by two separate flexible ring systems that are pressurized with air while the boom is still on the reel. Transverse bulkheads divide the boom into 5 meter chambers. A specially designed top tension member ensures that the freeboard is maintained even if a leakage should occur. A secondary air inflation system is used to top up the boom chambers when necessary, which permits long term deployment in very rough seas.
